The Charleston County Aviation Authority launched a formal recycling program in 2009.
Since then, more than 121 tons of aluminum, glass, plastic and newspapers have been collected for recycling. More than 304 tons of cardboard has been recycled.
In addition to paper, cans and plastic, the Aviation Authority also recycles batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, tires and oil.
The Aviation Authority has always had a strong recycling program support from its tenants. The CCAA also encourages visitors and passengers to recycle using the many recycling containers located throughout the airport. Recycling locations include airline gates, curbside , security screening checkpoints, ticketing, baggage claim, rental car return and the atrium.
